My Portrait Of A Hero
I sat before my easel,
With palette close at hand,
Prepared to paint a seascape
Of Florida’s surf and sand.
But then this thought occurred to me;
“Those scenes are common place.
So, I think I’ll paint a portrait of
Some well known hero’s face.”
I thought of several icons.
Most know both far and wide.
But I couldn’t make my mind up,
No matter how I tried.
Mother Teresa…..Billy Graham?
And I thought of Gandhi, too.
And of course there’s Martin Luther King,
But which one should I do?
Well, I didn’t paint any famous face
From the choices that I had.
For none could grace my canvas like,
This portrait of my dad.
