My Old Friends

My old friends are a hearty bunch.
Most don’t show their ages.
But when it comes to the “Book of Life”
We’ve all turned many pages.

Several friends are wearing glasses now,
Making things a bit more clearer.
I just hope they never have them on
For close-ups with a mirror!

You know, it seems like only yesterday
The Smith’s were a handsome pair.
Now Sally’s charms have all gone south
And Herb’s run out of hair.

Ol’ Clyde and Jim were footballl stars.
They shared many great adventures.
Now the only thing Jim brags about
Are his brand-new, hi-tech dentures.

All my old friends love gossip,
And I’ve found this to be true…….
When they’re telling tales on someone else,
They’re not telling tales on you.

Just to shake the hand of a dear old friend
Or share a gentle hug,
Always brings a smile to my furrowed face
And gives my heart a tug.

Lord, I’m forever hopeful,
That when my journey ends,
Heaven will find me surrounded by…..
Scores of “My Old Friends.”
