The Essence of Spring
“Spring has sprung, the grass has riz.
I wonder where the birdies is.”
Winters gone and spring is here.
I think I’ll have another beer.
It’s time to golf and cut the grass.
Plant ligustrum, fish for bass.
Flowers grow and sun does shine.
Grapes will soon be on the vine.
Walk sandy beach, enjoy the view.
Have a picnic and visit the zoo.
Clean out closets, get rid of junk.
Yard sale heaven treasures clunk.
Fire the barbecue, toss a ball.
Sail your power boat or yawl.
Shed outer clothes and sweaters, too.
Dump the old, embrace the new.
Plan holidays and have a fling.
Eternal hope comes with the spring.
Spring is here with weeds galore.
On bended knees, ground I explore
Sweaty work and aching crawl.
I can’t wait until it’s Fall.
