From The Editor
Saying Good Bye and Hello
A Note from the PublisherThe Roman philosopher Seneca once wrote, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” After almost three years, I find myself reciting these words as I say goodbye to the only editor Tower Publications has known.
I remember meeting with Patricia only days after she sold a community newspaper she started in the area. Having known her more by reputation than personally, we discussed her part-time involvement in Senior Times, and she agreed to a short-term employment stint, while she figured out what was next for her writing future. I’m not sure how it happened, but Patricia found a home with Tower, and I found someone that was passionate about our products, the editorial content and our readers. She charged forward and did more than I ever expected. Not only did she create the responsibilities associated with her position, but also developed a team of writers and a vision for our editorial future. Most importantly, she did it with integrity.
Thank you Pat, for everything you’ve done! You will be missed!
So, as this beginning ends, a new chapter in Tower Publications begins. Please join me in welcoming Albert Isaac as our new editor. The name may sound familiar, as Albert has been one of our featured writers for some time. An accomplished writer, photographer (he took this month’s cover shot) and grandfather, Albert brings his own unique perspective to this position, one I’m sure you’ll enjoy.
As always, thank you for taking the time to enjoy our magazine each month. I encourage each of you to stay connected to us through our new Web site or letters to the editor. Please let us know what you think. It means everything to us.
A Note from the Editor
It is true that new beginnings require another beginning’s end. This past month I accepted a position with Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Commission as an editor, and as you read this issue, I will be settling into a new home and job in Tallahassee. I am excited about the new challenges ahead, yet feel sadness in leaving the Tower family and this area that has been my home for over 25 years.
I am forever indebted to Charlie Delatorre who encouraged and supported every one of my decisions, allowing me the freedom to reach higher than I ever thought possible. My Tower family loves me despite — or perhaps because of — my penchant for golf carts and full moons in Miami.
This ending certainly brings a new beginning as the new editor wants me to continue contributing my column and occasional articles to Senior Times. Thankfully, I do not have to say good-bye to you, the readers. That would be too much to bear all at once. It is bad enough that I am leaving Charlie and all the rest of the Tower crew who I have come to value as some of the best friends a gal could ever have. Albert Isaac will do a super job as the new editor as he embraces the same enthusiasm and love for the magazines as I still do.
