Acceptance is Important for Mental Health

The ability to accept ourselves and others as we are is important in life. If we accept the uniqueness of our persona, with its positive and negative aspects, we will have inner peace, which is true happiness, as opposed to the transitory euphoria brought on by episodes of good fortune or artificially by the abuse of drugs.

The ability to accept others as they are will allow them to also reciprocate in accepting us in spite of our imperfections, enriching our social lives and our circle of friends. Acceptance, after all, is based on love. And loving ourselves and others is the key to happiness.

When we get older, many of us tend to be less accepting and more critical of others and ourselves. That is a negative trend that we can change by becoming aware of it. At first it won’t be easy to change, as no change is easy. But if we do it will become a habit with many positives and no negatives.
We owe it to ourselves and our health to try it now
