My Trip to the Land of the Old

This is a trip not too many are allowed to take, as not too many reach the decade of the 80s. It is indeed a privilege to have arrived.

With any privilege in life there are attached responsibilities, and old age is no exception to this rule. Life experiences have given me wisdom with a duty to pass it over to the young. People treat me with more kindness, consideration and respect, and it is my duty to reciprocate.

Others now look up to me as they do to every other old man, and they expect us to behave like gentlemen and be positive role models. Many want to listen to history first-hand, and I feel compelled to satisfy their curiosity.

My family and friends cherish my presence in the land of the living, so it is my duty to take care of my health. It is often that I feel grumpy and wish that others would leave me to myself. But they will not have me around for much longer, so I have to make the effort to be available and socialize.

Finally, sometimes I lose my temper and revert to childlike temper tantrums, as my frontal lobe is not as healthy as it used to be. So I need to be aware of it and put forth more effort in controlling it.

Overall it is a privilege and an honor to have arrived.
