Promises and Wishes for the New Year

At this time of the year it is customary to remember and reflect on the positives and negatives of the ending year and to plan for the year ahead. These plans and promises are not often met, sometimes because of negligence on our part and at other times because of the unpredictable future.

Here are a few of my wishes for the coming year:

Good health is always at the top of the list. At our age health is unpredictable, but there is much we can do to try and stay healthy. A healthy lifestyle is under our control.

An end to war and terrorism. This is really wishful thinking, as war has always been around throughout history, but we should all join in a cry for peace.

To hope that the next administration will have a clear agenda based on what is good for all and not only for a chosen few. We should all exercise our voting rights, which is not only a privilege in a democracy like ours but also a duty.

Hope that the next administration has the integrity to carry out that agenda and be allowed to do so independently from partisan politics.

To try to live each day constructively, avoiding any type of destructive behavior. To try to help others any way we can, avoiding undue criticism, allowing them to live their lives as they choose, but being available for help and guidance when needed.

To continue to have faith in God and in the future of mankind, after all we are only a very small part of the universe.

To combat environmental contamination and stop global warming.

To fight poverty in the United States and around the world.

To find alternative sources of energy so we stop depending on the OPEC nations, many of which are enemies of the United States.

Finally for good to prevail over evil so paradise on earth can become a reality and not a utopia.
