Volunteer Voice
Do you have the Gift of Music?
Every year, starting on Thanksgiving, Alachua County empties of many active volunteers. Many of these volunteers are either in college or are have families and friends in other parts of the country. This leaves many organizations short of volunteers to spread the joy and magic of the holiday season to those in health care facilities.
You can help the agency of your choice this upcoming holiday season by writing a holiday card, taking the time to visit with a patient or coming as an individual or a group to bring the sounds of the holidays to those who cannot travel from their residences.
If you want to share your musical talents, contact the volunteer departments at these agencies:
- Haven Hospice would love youth and Senior groups to come to their beautiful community area and sing (352-379-6244)
- The Ronald McDonald House would enjoy carolers (352-372-6396)
- Elder Care has many congregate food sites where people would enjoy a performance (352-265-9040)
- Shands Hospital at UF (352-265-0360)
- HarborChase of Gainesville is looking for traveling performers (352-332-4505)
- Oak Hammock is another place to volunteer your talents (352-548-1000)
Check the phone book for a list of other nursing homes you can call.
Whether you are part of a choral group from a church or school, or someone who plays an instrument, sharing your talents will bring joy to those who may not be able to travel out in the community.
To find if you can help, all you have to do is call.
